RSCM Voice for life programme

There are four levels of achievement within each module:

1. Light Blue

2. Dark Blue

3. Red

4. Yellow 

5. Once all modules have been completed at Light Blue level, singers earn their certificate and then progress on to Dark Blue level, etc. 

Module A: Using the voice well

This module aims to teach singers how to develop a good vocal technique. This includes demonstrating knowledge and understanding of areas such as: Posture, breathing, tone, range, diction, voice-care and blending with the ensemble.

Module B: Musical skills and understanding

This module concentrates on developing skills to support their singing, skills enabling them to read music and interpret what they see. This includes demonstrating knowledge and understanding of areas such as: note and rest values, time signatures, leger lines, sharps, flats, chords and cadences.

Module C: Repertoire

This module enables singers to understand the musical and historical contexts of the music performed by the choir. This includes demonstrating knowledge and understanding of areas such as: finding information – composer, lyricist, dates, suitability of music for specific events.

Module D: Belonging to the choir.

This module encourages members to develop and understanding of their responsibilities to the group and how their individual contributions add to the ensemble. This includes demonstrating knowledge and understanding of areas such as: roles within the choir, Discipline, rehearsal etiquette, transitioning to an adult choir.

Module E: Choir in context

This module allows singers to understand why their choir exists, and the wider implications and the power of the music they perform. This includes demonstrating knowledge and understanding of areas such as: the impact of their performances on each other and in the wider community.
