Michael Foy 
Director of Music

Michael Foy

Michael Foy began his musical training aged eight as a chorister in his local parish church in Kirkby. He began studying the organ at age ten and from there won a full scholarship to the prestigious Mount St Mary’s College; a Jesuit boarding school near Sheffield.

On his return to Liverpool, he gained A Levels in Music and Art and later attended Liverpool University, gaining undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in music, and is currently researching for a PhD at Bangor University.

After a period assisting the music department at St Faith’s Church, Crosby he was appointed Director of music at Christ Church, Bootle where he served for ten years before moving to St Nicolas’ Church, Blundellsands, serving for twenty years. As well as developing the music in church, making it a centre of excellence in the area, he also founded a community choir; The St Nicholas Singers (now Crosby Community Choir).

He was Head of Music at Sacred Heart Catholic Academy in Crosby for twenty years, providing thousands of pupils the opportunity to develop though the engaging curriculum he developed and delivered as well as the many concerts, trips, tours, extra-curricular ensembles and instrumental provision.

He is now organist at both St Helen’s Church, Crosby and St Joseph’s Church, Blundellsands.

He has performed in many prestigious cathedrals and halls in this country and an increasing number in France, Spain and Germany.

NOTE

[Due to recent ill-health, Mike has taken a step back and now concentrates most of his efforts managing our regular events and co-ordinating the annual music festival.]
